Replacing the geyser
There are some important issues about the size of your geyser and possible costs not carried by the Insurance.

The size is important!
Your geyser most likely is of 200 liters capacity and of older design and energy category “C”.
All new geysers are of category “B” and have a better and thicker insulation.
The problem is however that the space where they are fitted within the cupboard is very limited and in most cases large modifications will have to be made to re-fit the cupboard again. These costs will to a large degree have to be carried by the owner.
To avoid these problems and possible on-cost the owner should consider to downsize the geyser to 150 liters capacity.
The fitment dimensions are nearly identical to the 200 liter geyser and no modifications are usually necessary to the cupboard. This smaller geyser is also more economical to maintain and has in most cases enough hot water reserve for a family of four.
Keep also in mind that the cupboard will have to dismantled before the plumbers can do their work, and re-fitted afterwards. This usually only takes some minutes.
