Guidelines for installation of a hybrid inverter and lithium battery

Please observe the following when you consider installing a hybrid inverter and lithium battery:
- The trustees must be informed when installing a hybrid inverter and lithium battery
- National standards and Municipal by-laws must be observed.
- The installation must be registered with the Insurance selected by the Body Corporate and any additional premiums may be recovered from the owner or applicant through the monthly levy statements.
- The installation must be done through a certified electrician and a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) for the installation must be presented to the Body Corporate or the Managing Agent.
- All manufacturer’s guidelines for the mounting and connections of inverter and battery must be strictly observed.
- An adequate lithium fire extinguisher, complying with SANS 1910 must be provided in an accessible space if the battery capacity exceeds 5 kWh.
- The installation may not be done in open living areas or bedrooms.
- Wall mounted equipment may only be mounted against a double brick wall, which is closed to full ceiling height).
- If the installation is done in an outbuilding (garage), then all wiring between the inverter and the main distribution board must be routed in appropriate conduits (no overhanging “bridge” connections).
- Should any damage occur to structural components of the owner’s unit during the installation, or when in use, they must be repaired by the owner at the owner’s cost.
Please note:
It is advisable to notify Addsure, the Body Corporate insurance broker, irrespective whether another insurer has been chosen.
Failure to provide a Certificate of Conformance may jeopardize any insurance claims for the whole section!
Application to install a hybrid inverter and lithium battery
You are requested to notify the trustees. The trustees reserve the right to conduct a visual inspections whilst work is in progress.
Installation of a hybrid inverter and battery
After receipt of your notification will the trustees study your application and confirm their decision within a few days.
If the application is approved you can proceed with the installation.
