Solar Panel Installations
This Solar Pack will guide residents through the steps necessary when they plan to install solar panels on a common or exclusive use roof. You will find the relevant rules, guidelines, recommended installers and the application form here.
- The trustees must be notified in writing if an owner intends to fit solar panels to the common roof.
- A Certificate of Compliance (CoC) for the full installation must be provided.
- A report from a qualified engineer may be required to ensure the structural integrity of the roof for any first installation on a building with its own roof characteristics.
- All owners within a building must give written consent.
- It is of utmost importance to read and understand section 29 of the Conduct Rules (attached here)
- The fitment must be done by a recognized and registered solar installer. (A prefeeed installers list is attached.)
- Panels must be of the same dimension on at least the same side of the common roof.
- An equal number of solar panels must be allowed for all owners in the building, on the same side of the roof. The solar panel space of a unit may not encroach into the space of another unit.

Application for a solar panel installation
Approval may be granted by the trustees if they are are satisfied that the installation is within the scope as outlined in the STMA and in the Conduct Rules. An initial approval may be supported by visual inspections whilst work is in progress and any deficiencies found at such an inspection must be corrected by the owner to retain this approval.
Solar panel installation
After receipt of your application will the trustees carefully carry out an assessment. They may have to come back to you for further qualifying questionns in order to gain a full understanding.
Once the assessment is done the trustees will communicate their decision in writing to you and the Managing Agent. You will also receive clear notes on the outcome of the decision, which may be the further rules or guidelines to be observed or reasons for non-approval.
This process will normaly take a few days only,
